British trading platform eToro has signed an advertising contract with seven football clubs of the English Premier League to accept Bitcoin to become advertising partners. This is the first time any major sports teams to sign an agreement to be paid in Bitcoins.
Football clubs Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Cardiff City, Leicester City, Newcastle United, and Southampton will become eToro’s advertising partners and all the transactions will be made in Bitcoins. Within the framework of cooperation, the emphasis will be on integrating the technology of blockchain and crypto-currency in the stadiums and in the football industry as a whole.
This agreement has become another milestone in the process of developing the Crypto-currency in the field of professional sports. Individual experiments have been done before more than once to acquire public fame. In particular, the Turkish club Harunustaspor in January this year hired a professional player for bitcoins.
“This is very much the first step on a long road to football fully embracing bitcoin and the underlying blockchain technology,” says Iqbal V. Gundham, Managing Director of eToro.
This move marks a fresh milestone for cryptocurrency integration in mainstream football. Meanwhile, UEFA last week confirmed the launch of a ticketing system built on the block, the deployment of which will take place in several stages.
