Reports on various media outlets suggest that Marvel is considering the feasibility of proceeding with legal actions the crypto-currency start-up, Wacoinda for using a title that is very similar to their fictitious country “Wakanda” from comics and the film about the Black Panther.
The subsidiary of the comic giant, Marvel Characters, asked the US Patent and Trademark Office for additional time to decide on a possible actions against the registration of Wacoinda trademarks. The final decision must be made by November 14. Both trademarks are owned by Wilsondom LLC, a company that wants to provide financial and educational services in the field of crypto currencies.

Wacoinda, if the trademark registration is approved, will implement a number of initiatives in the field of training and economic opportunities in the African-American community. The application for the registration of the Wacoinda trademark was filed in February.
While Marvel Characters does not comment on the situation.
Wacoinda is not the first crypto-currency project inspired by the film Black Panther. In June, the African singer Akon announced the launch of the Akoin crypto currency and the desire to “embody Wakud in real life.” At the moment, the process of building a city on the territory of 2000 acres is underway. The land was donated by the President of Senegal, Maki Sallom.
